Vintage Hanson Model 2000 Utility Scale – 25 lb Capacity – Original Label – Made in USA
Great vintage Hanson Model 2000 Utility Scale, manufactured by the Hanson Scale Co. of Northbrook, Illinois. This classic American-made mechanical scale features a large, easy-to-read circular dial, sturdy metal construction, and a removable rectangular weighing platform.
The dial is marked “Capacity 25 Pounds – By Ounces” and “Not Legal for Trade.” One of the nicest features of this example is the surviving original Hanson advertising/instruction label on the platform. The label illustrates the many intended uses of the scale, including weighing food, laundry, parcels, canning ingredients, farming, industrial applications, chemistry, and railroad use. It also carries the classic Hanson slogan “In a Scale… Buy Quality” and notes the company was established in 1888.
The scale retains its aged off-white/cream painted body with contrasting dark platform and has a great authentic industrial/farmhouse appearance.
Condition: Good vintage condition with honest wear from age and use. There are scattered paint chips, scratches, discoloration and surface oxidation, particularly on the weighing platform. The original paper platform label remains substantially intact but shows considerable age, staining and edge wear. Dial face and markings remain quite readable. Adjustment knob is present. Unless you have personally checked it against a known weight, I would list it as “mechanism responds, accuracy not guaranteed.”
This would make a great display piece for a farmhouse kitchen, country store, general store, produce stand, restaurant, antique shop, industrial collection or vintage advertising display.
