2009 Australia Post 200 Years – Early Posting Box 1/2 Oz .999 Silver Proof Stamp-Coin Set
Issued in 2009 to commemorate 200 years of postal services in Australia (1809–2009), this limited-edition Australia Post collector set pairs an original 55-cent Early Posting Box postage stamp with a matching stamp-shaped silver proof coin struck by The Perth Mint.
The unusual rectangular coin reproduces the Early Posting Box stamp design in color, while the reverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Although designed to resemble a postage stamp, the piece was officially issued as Australian legal tender with a denomination of 55 cents AUD.
Specifications: 1/2 Troy oz (15.573 g) of 99.9% pure silver, proof with color, approximately 26.60 × 37.60 mm and 2.5 mm thick. The original Australia Post bulletin confirms an issue price of AU$89.95 and a limited edition of 8,700 sets.
This example includes the original presentation box/display, matching postage stamp, silver proof stamp-coin and numbered certificate, numbered 2907/8700. The outer presentation box shows visible storage/handling wear, including surface marks and scuffs; please review photographs for condition.
